Our statement on this week’s tragic events
As we commemorate the national tragedy of September 11th, 2001, we are sadly facing continued bloodshed from gun violence in our country.
In the last twenty-four hours, we have witnessed both the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, and the Evergreen High School shooting which tragically resulted in three students being shot. This comes only a few weeks after the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School which killed two students and injured twenty-one others. All of these are sacrosanct places of learning where no one should be subjected to such violence and intolerance.
As a party, we extend our greatest sympathy towards the families and victims of these tragedies. We strongly condemn political violence of any kind, regardless of ideology.
As we continue to navigate the days, months, and weeks ahead, we strive to show compassion to victims of gun violence and their families as we work towards a solution to this systemic issue which plagues our country.
In Solidarity,
Gwinnett County Democratic Party
